From: paul@mmotion.com (Paul Pillitteri) Subject: [sfskaters] Update on the skate related law changes Date: Fri, 16 Jan 1998 15:51:03 -0800 Hi Skaters, Here is the quick update on the skate related law changes and the proposed one year Pilot Program. Summary: - We are still proceeding toward a successful outcome. - Supervisor Ammiano is still in support. - No known obstacles/opponents stand in our way. - It's still too early to predict an exact start date. - No immediate assistance needed from skaters (at this moment). General Update: The Deputy City Attorney is currently drafting the language for a pilot program that would allow skater access to designated SF city streets. The City's prime concerns have always been safety and liability, so as we discuss the suggested components to facilitate this type of program, they tend to lean toward the ultraconservative side.... no big surprise there. As we slowly inch forward, it becomes a volley of give and take - each side asking for something while the other weighs the impact. Some items are negotiable, others are not. It's still too early to give exact details... most are too fluid at this point. D. and I are attending another meeting toward the end of the month that should further define the program. I'll report in more detail then. Until then, skate safely and with respect for other forms of traffic. Paul Pillitteri
