From: paul@mmotion.com (Media In Motion) Subject: [sfskaters] SF City code Section 100 Update Date: Thu, 9 Oct 1997 00:57:41 -0800 SF City code Section 100 Update Hi Skaters, Here is the current status on the SF skating laws. To date, all of the SF City departments have given verbal approval for conducting a one-year pilot program that will allow skaters to have access to designated SF streets. Safety and liability issues are still the top concerns. Our plan for safety is to educate MUNI drivers, motorists and pedestrians, but ultimately it will be up to us to skate defensively, responsibly and show that we are capable of sharing the road. The liability issues are being worked on at the City and State level and are moving forward systematically. For a number of legal reasons, the earliest possible deployment of this program would be the first of the year. The good news is that we are being left alone by the authorities and we are respected for our willingness to take responsibility for our actions, particularly on the FN Skate. So... many thanks to the volunteer Skate Patrol for helping to make this a reality! I'll continue to report our progress. Skate safely, Paul Pillitteri
