From: paul@mmotion.com (Media In Motion) Subject: [sfskaters] SF and NY skate laws Date: Fri, 16 May 1997 11:58:43 -0800 I am aware of the law that NYC put in place (section 19-176.1 "Reckless Operation..") which defines their meaning of reckless operation on skates. The way the law is written, it allows the local authorities to issue fines between $50 and $100 if a skater gets out of control, endangering themselves, others or property, etc. I feel this is a great compromise... it gives skaters access to the roads and sidewalks AND it gives the police a way to control "dangerous" situations. I have passed this law and a Court of Appeals case from Minnesota on to the SF City Attorney. The Attorney is researching these laws and since they set precedent, it may help our case. Does anyone else out there know of *any* favorable laws regarding access for skaters? If so, please contact me.
