From: paul@mmotion.com (Media In Motion) Subject: [sfskaters] Skate law news Date: Thu, 15 May 1997 13:24:52 -0800 Hi Skaters, Here's the latest news... The meeting that D. and I were suppose to attend yesterday with Supervisor Ammiano and the several of the City department heads, was postponed at the *very last* minute. This meeting was to further discuss the potential of conducting a "pilot program" consisting of designated skate routes through the city. We are attempting to reschedule for June 2nd. In addition to the tedious process of gathering information for the above meeting, we have been lobbying two organized groups in an effort to gain the support of cyclists in the Bay Area; the SFBC (San Francisco Bicycle Coalition) and BAC (Bicycle Advisory Committee of San Francisco) D. and I did attend a meeting this week with the SFBC and received a unanimous vote from the members to support our cause! As I had mentioned before, this is a positive move for us. The SFBC is recognized and respected by the City. It is beneficial to them as well... we will broaden their constituency base which advocates human powered and alternate forms of transportation. I will begin to post information and events they sponsor from time to time and I encourage you to visit their web site for additional information: http://www.sfbike.org D. and I meet with the BAC next week to ask for similar support and to find out more about their organization. That's all for now. Special thanks to Scotty Karnes for pulling an all-nighter to create an overview of the data we are presenting in our next meeting. Skate safely and with respect, Paul Pillitteri
