From: paul@mmotion.com (Media In Motion) Subject: [sfskaters] Meeting Results Date: Thu, 17 Apr 1997 18:08:56 -0800 Hi Skaters, Well... round one is behind us. Many thanks to all that took the time to write letters and to attend the meeting today. The short story is... The SF Supervisor Subcommittee meeting was very positive. We had about 30-40 skaters show for the occasion. Some with skates, some without. All spoke eloquently and demonstrated professionalism and respect. Well done! The committee members, Supervisors Teng, Yee and Medina were fairly attentive and generally supportive. If you've ever been to one of these meetings, you know the Supervisors have a relatively short attention span. Supervisor Ammiano attended and chaired "our" portion of the meeting because he is sponsoring the proposal. Ammiano was *very* positive, upbeat and totally committed. We have encountered some opposition from the SF Department of Parking and Traffic (DPT). We have also encountered some general opposition because of the implication that we are associated with skateboarders. Ammiano worked hard to separate our issues from that of the skateboarders, and he has set the foundation to begin talks with the DPT to address their concerns. If all of the City Government departments can come to an agreement, the language will be drafted and reviewed by the same Subcommittee (in 2 weeks) and should easily pass to the Board of Supervisors meeting, for a vote (sometime in May). If it passes the full Board meeting, it will go to the Mayor. We are not out of the woods yet! Please keep sending letters of support (they will be needed and useful at every step in the process) and skating in a respectful manor. D. and I will keep you posted on the next step. Thanks again to all! Paul Pillitteri
