From: cablader@ix.netcom.com (D Miles) Subject: [sfskaters] letter writing campaign for Friday Night Skate Date: Tue, 15 Oct 1996 10:19:03 -0700 Hi skaters, Are you still fuming over the police actions last Friday? I am. But being angry is not going to help me or you. I stepped as close to the line as I could without crossing it with my anger towards the cops that night. As a group, the Skate Patrol took the biggest hit. Nearly everyone with a red Skate Patrol Shirt got a $55.00 ticket. They were being picked out of the crowd for the most part. They were also the ones who would stop when a cop asked them to. One guy, Jon was nearly tackled by a cop. We have to start taking a stronger stand for the things we love to do. I don't want to change the FNS. I love it just the way it is. But we may have to for a little while. We are right now in the process of changing the skating laws in San Francisco so that the FNS would be perfectly legal. I don't want to do anything that would hurt that bill from passing. I urge you all to write about your experiences last Friday and send them to the Board of Supervisors and to the Chief of Police and the Captian of Northern Station. If you don't live in San Francisco, explain what this skate means to you in your neck of the woods. Many of you sent great letters and e-mail from across the country to the Supes before. We must do the same again. What happened to us must be documented. Please use courteous. Let your sting come from the passion of your words, but don' let your words be beneath the discussion conversation. (yeah, like I some kind of poet) This Friday we will not go up Union Street. Although the tickets will all be thrown out, it's a big hassle to have to show up in court for the fight. I don't want to subject the skaters to these Gistapo tatics again. We will turn left from Fillmore onto Filbert and follow that up to Polk St. This way we will avoid Sgt. Butthole and his and his maggot squad. (I told you I was still angry) P.S. Sgt. Butthole's real name is Sgt. Jim Hughes of Noethern Station. Write to: Chief Fred H. Lau San Francisco Chief of Police 850 Bryant St. Room 525 San Francisco, Ca. 94104 415-553-0123 Capt.
