From: cablader@ix.netcom.com (D Miles) Subject: [sfskaters] Changes coming for S.F. Friday Night Skate Date: Thu, 19 Sep 1996 09:58:15 -0700 Hi skaters, We will all remember Friday the 13th '96. Alex Bennett puts in his gooddentures in to rag on the air about the FNS. The National Guard is called out to greet us on Union Street and then there's the San Francisco Port Commission. (There was a great jam session with the street musicians at Union Square) My e-mail is on the fritz, but I will have the info on the state of the skate by the end of today. In the mean time we must put out the word on the relocation of the new gathering location and start of the skate. It seems we have a problem with the San Francisco Port Commission. I say it "seems" because no one from the Port will say exactly what the complaints are. T Last Friday night (9-13-96) the security officers that patrol the Ferry Building came over to the parking lot where the skaters gather for the night skate. They came to inform the skaters of the "laws" they have been forced to enforce. WE ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO GATHER IN THE PARKING LOT ACROSS FROM THE FERRY BUILDING. They said that skating is not allowed on Port property and that we are trespassing on their property. They wanted us to all move right then, but I convinced them that would throw these 600 people into chaos. This Friday we will meet at the parking lot near the intersection of Bryant and the Embarcadero. This is south of the Ferry Building just past the Bay Bridge. Ic is across the street from Pier 32, site of the Jeremia O'Brien Liberty Ship. This has always served as an alternative meeting point for the FNS. I don't know how long we will be able to park here. This could be a permanent spot, but who knows. We will continue to skate every Friday as long as it doesn't rain. More to come. While I was writing this, I got a call from the Port asking us to pay to use the Ferry Building lot. "You can become a tennant, you guys have money", he is saying to me on the phone right now. More to come...
